Indiyah Brookes s Story

At LeadHER Foundation, mentorship is at the heart of what we do. One of our proud mentorship success stories is the journey of India Brookes, a LeadHER Scholar whose growth over the past five years reflects the power of meaningful guidance and support.

India first joined the LeadHER Scholar Program while she was a student at Phillip Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas. During the program, she was paired with Onye Ibuchukwu, a pharmacist who became her mentor because India had expressed a strong interest in pursuing a career in pharmacy.

Through the LeadHER program, India says she learned the importance of resilience, focus, and pursuing her goals with determination. With Onye’s mentorship and encouragement, India stayed committed to her academic and professional path.

Since graduating from Wheatley High School, India has continued to grow in her field. Today, she is a Certified Pharmacy Technician and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology, with the goal of becoming a pharmaceutical scientist.

For the past five years, India and Onye have maintained an active mentor–mentee relationship, one that has been both meaningful and inspiring.

Reflecting on India’s journey, Onye shared: “I am really excited about how much India has grown, and her future truly excites me.”

India’s story is a reminder of how mentorship can help young women clarify their goals, build confidence, and pursue careers. We are proud to stand behind scholars like India as they continue to chase their dreams and make an impact in their fields. India, we are cheering you on every step of the way.
